The German DiGA Directory

What is the German DiGA Directory?

The German DiGA Directory is the official register of BfArM (Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices) for all approved DiGAs (Digital Health Applications, or “Digitale Gesundheitsanwendungen”). DiGAs that are either listed permanently or preliminarily can be prescribed by doctors and psychotherapists, or requested directly by patients. All German Statutory Health Insurances (SHIs) will then (after an eligibility check) pay for this health application. That’s why DiGAs are frequently referred to as “Apps on prescription” – although a DiGA does not necessarily have to be an actual app.

How does an app get into the DiGA directory?

To be listed in the DiGA directory, health applications have to go through a very thorough DiGA approval process, the DiGA Fast Track process for digital health applications. That’s to ensure that only safe and effective health applications are added to the DiGA directory. The comprehensive requirements for a DiGA approval are listed in the BfArM’s DiGA-Guidelines.
